Why Did I Walk in Here?

The first blog I attempted to write was actually called "Why Did I Walk in Here?" because it seemed like I was constantly asking myself that question. I'm in the pantry...wonder why? Just went into the laundry room...what was I after? Now in the garage...duct tape? Retrace my steps, try again, oh yes! I intended to turn off the sprinkler in the back yard. So frustrating!

That still happens on occasion, but it's not enough content for an entire blog.

I'm Sharon, and it makes a lot more sense to report as a 50+ mom of 10-year-old twins (pretty sure I started a trend -- now every famous person in Hollywood makes the cover of People when they have twins). Sometimes it's not easy, but it's never boring!

My favorite subject besides the kids is food. Cookbooks read like novels to me. I visit farmers' markets on vacation. Grocery shopping is a hobby, and I read every label. Thank goodness my husband and boys like to eat.

I've got a weakness for dark chocolate, live theatre and big brown eyes (which everyone else in my house, including the dog, has). I'm not very comfortable writing about myself, so that won't happen often. Instead, I make a lot of observations. And I've always kind of wanted to be a critic -- music, movies, recipes, or restaurants -- so I might try some of that. Should be fun!

Hello, friends!

Hello out there!  I'm Beth and...I've always wanted to be a blogger.
That's a lie.  I didn't even know what a blog was until I was in my forties.  That wasn't so long ago.

So what do I have to offer as a blogger, other than my wit, wisdom and charm?  Maybe I'll get someone to smile today.  Maybe someone will identify with what I say.  Maybe, just maybe, I'll touch a life ever so briefly.  Who knows?

My motives for writing are not completely altruistic.  I enjoy writing and it is always fun to tell a story.  Sometimes I can see a situation differently when I write about it.  Often, I will see myself differently when I write.

I write the way I talk, so it is not always proper.  I can find humor in just about any situation. I love parentheses, sarcasm and long walks on the beach at sunset.

Hopefully you will enjoy reading what Sharon, Patty and I have to offer.  Sit back, relax and read away.  Oh, and enlarge the print on your computer to avoid eye strain.  Yes, I've reached that part of my life!

Hello! Welcome and a few words of warning!

My name is Patty and I'm Trouble. I'm the unfiltered, unpredictable part of this trio (and the youngest!)  I'm often irrational, impulsive, and offensive. My mouth works way faster than my mind. I say things that I'm actually thinking - I say them OUT LOUD.  This gets me into trouble. But really, how are people supposed to know they are full of crap if you don't tell them? Isn't it more of a public service than it is a criticism?

I have many ideas for things that I would like to blog about. Some of these ideas dear reader - you are not quite ready to experience. I will try to gently pull you in and then WHAM! in your face with something completely random and probably inappropriate.

I am planning on contributing a few recipes to the blog. Damn. Sorry, I said I would try to pull you in gently. That had to be a shock for people that know me well. So sorry. I will blog about books, movies, TV shows, life, food, and the really weird stage of life I am currently experiencing.

I make no promises. I will try and be on my best behavior but you might find that too boring. Even if I try, it never lasts long. I hope you will find a few words of wisdom, and a few laughs among my wandering, scattered thoughts - more likely you will lose IQ points just reading them.

If you want to complain about grammatical errors, punctuation, any of that BS, do that on Beth or Sharon's page because I don't really care. Be happy that my mind can assign any kind of punctuation at all to my written thoughts. If it came out on the page like it comes out of my head it would just be word vomit.

Consider yourself duly warned!

This is me in a section of the home I'm not real familiar with or comfortable in. It's actually not my real kitchen. My real kitchen is much uglier than this one.

Opening Remarks

Welcome to our little corner of the web. It's 2013, and we know, we know, blogging is nothing new. Shoot, we've been doing it in our heads for years. Independently, we've gone so far as to set up our own blogs...and then never actually posted anything. So the idea here is that together we might actually get this thing done.

Who are we? At one time, we were three teenagers from different cities and different high schools whose paths only crossed because we each decided to go out and get a job. And, because we were high schoolers, we felt like most jobs would be boring and hard...so we ended up working in an amusement park. The wisdom of the personnel department threw us together and dressed us alike, and as they say, the rest is history.

That really changed our lives, although back then we couldn't possibly have known how much. Now, of course, we're a little older (ahem) and a lot wiser. However it happened, here we are, still together. We share countless memories of all the good and not-so-good times that are inevitable consequences of 30-odd years of friendship: boyfriends, sunburns, late-night inventories, parties, graduations, weddings, new babies, funerals, vacations, all kinds of firsts. Our first posts will introduce us as we are today, and then I expect the unexpected after that!

This is us, Patty, Sharon and Beth (after we stopped dressing alike)
because we just knew 25+ years ago that we would need a picture like this.

Now, a little about the blog:
Real friends.
You've got real friends -- their voices are familiar and their faces tell you just what they're thinking. They'll gladly be your grammar and fashion police. You've known them since way before friend somehow became a verb. They may "like" your posts, but they actually like you. Our posts here are contributed only by real friends.

Real food.
Everyone has to eat, and we've got way too many choices regarding unhealthy, over-advertised options.  Apples and broccoli don't have much chance without marketing managers. And "cheap" isn't at all what food should be! We're all working on what we can do to make our own tables healthier.

Real life.
Life happens to us all -- good, bad, funny, infuriating, delightful, unfair, whatever. So no subject is off limits (reader beware!). We're each unique personalities, in different places in life and with widely varied stories to tell and observations to make. (If we were all just alike, well, that would be boring, and a couple of us would be unnecessary!)

Ready? Let's go!
